The Gap in Device-Based Filtering

Most classroom management tools work by putting an agent or a browser extension on a school-issued device. That covers the device. It doesn't cover the phone in the student's pocket, the personal laptop, or the Chromebook a student has signed into with a personal profile.

It also depends on the device cooperating. Extensions get disabled, profiles get switched, applications get bypassed.

Class Guard works one layer down. Policy is applied to the network session, on the firewall your school already owns, so it covers every device on your network and there's nothing on the endpoint for a student to work around.

How it works

1. Students connect the way they already do. Your wireless network authenticates students through your RADIUS server. Class Guard reads those sessions. No change to how anyone signs in.

2. Teachers set policy for their own classes. A teacher signs in to a web app and sees the sections they teach. They can tighten access during a lecture, open a specific site for a lab, or lock things down during a quiz.

3. Policy applies, then expires. Class Guard writes the rules to your existing SonicWall or FortiGate for the duration of the period. When the bell rings, they come off automatically. A student's access always reflects the class they're actually in.

What We Don’t Require

  • No agent on student devices. Nothing to install, nothing to break, no help-desk tickets for a failed extension.

  • No managed devices or MDM profiles. Works the same on a school Chromebook, a personal laptop, and a phone.

  • No new hardware. It runs against the firewall and RADIUS server you already have.

  • No change to network performance. Policy is written out of band, not inserted into the traffic path.
